Having recently launched British Recycled Paint we are making use of eBay to get the product out there, and are offering a great deal on this eco-frendly, high quality product.

Hebden Bridge shop becomes first stockist of recycled paint

Colour Yorkshire in Albert Street, Hebden Bridge, has become the first stockist of British Recycled Paint in the country.

Owner, Kate Topping, said "It's quite a coup to get the recycled paint in. We sold our first cans within hours of their delivery and almost all of our customers have shown an interest.

They compare on quality with our top brands, and are priced a bit lower too. The fact that they are made from waste diverted from landfill is an additional bonus."

The paint is part of the Low Carbon Products range which also includes construction, landscaping and decorating products made from plastic, rubber and glass. Managing Director, Jason Elliott, said "Colour Yorkshire was the perfect choice for us. Kate and her team are very knowledgeable about the products they stock and share the same customer service values as us so we were delighted to make them the first stockists in the country and give them exclusivity for this area."

Recycled paint hits the market

Low Carbon Products are delighted to offer a new range of recycled paint, a groundbreaking new product representing the first step towards dealing with the estimated 50 million litres of paint that is incinerated or sent to landfill each year in the UK alone.

The biggest issue our society faces today is the environment, and the slow realisation that the way we pollute and the way we waste finite resources cannot be sustained. This has led to a major increase in reusing and recycling, both domestically and commercially.

But while paper, glass, plastic and metal etc are now widely recycled and reused, this has not been the case with paint, as it has been too problematic / not cost effective enough to bother with. However, landfilling and incinerating all this waste material cannot continue at the rate it does. Landfilling the paint causes chemicals to leach into the environment, landfill sites cannot continue to expand indefinitely, while incinerating paint releases all manner of toxins into the environment (as well as being a total waste of the material).

Now the technology and know-how is there to prevent (or at least reduce) this, allowing for the production of a top quality, fantastic value recycled product, after years of development from a master paint chemist.

Collections of waste paint (often from council facilities) is grouped by colour and reprocessed in what we believe is the only laboratory of its kind in Europe, resulting in an incredibly high quality emulsion with a recycled content of between 90% to 95%, depending upon the final colour, which is then repotted as British Recycled Paint. An added benefit of this remixing process is that antibacterial agents can be added, making recycled paint ideal for use in public buildings and healthcare facilities etc.

British Recycled Paint has just been launched and we are seeing a huge interest in the product. Something that several organisations have highlighted is that they have environmental policies and carbon targets, but introducing low carbon technology is costly. Investment in major infrastructure and equipment has been put on the backburner during the recession, however desirable or necessary it is. However, paint is something that needs to be bought anyway, is used on a daily basis and is a low cost way to improve the environmental performance of an organisation.

There has of course been reluctance to shift to recycled paint from some who would prefer to stick to what they have always used and know will do the job. This kind of reticence is understandable, it is the exact same reaction that greeted recycled plastic when it was in its infancy. However, the material is now used widely across many industries and is becoming specified as standard, now that the benefits of recycled plastic are appreciated and it is clear the performance is comparable or better than traditional materials. Low Carbon Products is committed to doing the same thing with recycled paint, growing the market with promotion, education, keen pricing and great service, as it is a fantastic product with great potential for widespread uptake.
